About Bex Shelford
Bex is based in County Dublin near the sea and the influence of these natural surroundings are apparent in her work. Her unique illustrative style is clean-lined and colourful. Sometimes her prints tells stories, sometimes they showcase the beautiful native Irish wildlife and landscape and often they have a twist of quirky humour. She is also the author and illustrator of the children’s book Be An Irish Explorer which was published in 2019.

Bex starts all her work with drawings, as much as possible from life, lurking on grassy knolls or beneath trees in the case of her bird series or, when imagining her rabbits, from the monuments and landscapes that inspire their adventures. These drawings are then used as a starting point to be worked on back in her studio where she develops colour and line. In the case of her rabbit story pictures these are then sketched out as a series of images to best condense their mischief into five picture boxes. With her screen prints, which is a new enterprise, she loves the process of building the colours as the image emerges to create a final, determinedly unique print.
