Gráinne Kenny is a Textile Designer creating original and colourful mixed media textile artwork, lamps and other products, Inspired by her love of Shorelines along the Irish Coast. She is known for her unique painterly style, by combining various materials and yarns to create bespoke pieces.
About Gráinne Kenny Design
Gráinne graduated with a Masters Degree in Textile Design from University College Falmouth, Cornwall . She trained in the art of hand woven textiles but also has a background in mixed media textiles. Gráinne has exhibited at various events such as Showcase Ireland since 2017 and her work is stocked in various gift shops and galleries, mainly dotted all along the Irish Coastline and inland. A love for colour, texture and surface detail are key qualities to her work. She uses various materials from Irish Linen, Cotton, Wool and Silk fabrics and yarns to paper, gold and silver leaf, glass beads and other media to create her textile artwork. Each piece is unique with no two identical and her designs have inspired the creation of other products with everything connecting to her love of the Sea.

My textile sea inspired works are made entirely by hand. I don't use any felting techniques such as wet felting or needles. I start by using a plain background such as a piece of linen or cotton and from there I tease out and lay down woolen and silk fibers and other media such as hand made paper, metallic threads, textile mediums, beads and seashells and I position everything to create a scene. I usually work from my own photography as Inspiration and have many photos of the Seashore. My materials are assembled using a combination of subtle stitching and heat techniques. I would fuse, distort and manipulate some of my materials to create waves or rocky surfaces. My lamps are inspired by my original textile artwork and the designs are abstracted using a computer and my designs are then printed onto fabric by a company in Donegal. The fabric is then sent to me and then I assemble the lamps from my studio. All work is Inspired by my love of the Seashore. All framing is Irish made and I frame all of my own work.
