Object of Desire: The Linen Tray by Jennifer Slattery

The embroidered Irish linen tray by Jennifer Slattery makes for a beautiful addition to your home especially when guests come around for tea. Jennifer has developed a method of encasing pure Irish linen in a melamine resin coating in order to create a unique product which encapsulates her design ethos to create a durable, practical object for the home which is waterproof and food safe and should last for many years.

Jennifer is best known for her pretty embroidered napkins and table runners, the designs for which are inspired by Irish wildflowers. "I notice that many people buy the napkins and table runners as gifts but are more likely to buy the trays for themselves," says the designer. "People are quite precious about the napkins even though linen is a very hard-wearing material. I wanted to create a product that people didn't have to be precious about but that was an every-day object which was also beautiful."

Jennifer's embroidered linen trays feature either colour or black embroidery and are currently available in limited editions. The designer intends to bring a wider selection to market early next year.

The circular trays measure 31cm and 38cm in diameter while the rectangular style measures 20cm x 27cm. These limited edition trays are available from Jennifer Slattery's website as well as from her studio in the heart of Dublin's Smithfield.
