Kilkenny, the home of Irish craft and design, has announced the return of Scéal: A story of Irish design following its successful inaugural year in 2018.

This year sees a new collection of designers take centre stage in their flagship Nassau Street store from September 2nd - 29th in collaboration with Design IrelandTM presented by the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI).

Scéal is a celebration of the unique relationship that Kilkenny has with its makers and the commitment the retailer has shown over their decades in business to nurturing and growing emerging Irish design talent.

Scéal will tell each supplier’s individual narrative and champion the craft and love that goes into each piece.

From the beginning of September, Kilkenny will host an exclusive Irish fashion pop up in-store which features a whole host of talented Irish designers including:


Jill & Gill - Award-winning print and illustration duo who specialise in fashion, design and fine art.

Reuben Avenue - sustainable brand using only natural and recycled materials in each of their handcrafted pieces.

Pearl Reddington - knitwear designer combining luxury Irish wool with cutting-edge knit techniques.

Sookyoung Song - Dublin-based designer who incorporates a vivid colour palette into each of her pieces.

Beaded Gem - Dublin milliner Jennifer Kelly creates hand-beaded headbands and headpieces.

Kinsale leather - Kinsale based Irish Accessory Designer of the Year winner who hand makes leather pieces that have been designed and made in Kinsale.

Triona - Fifth generation tweed clothing brand from Ardara, Co. Donegal also return as part of Scéal 2019. The brand is characterised by beautiful outerwear featuring their specialist Donegal tweed fabrics.

Each will showcase their products in the Nassau Street store in Dublin for a limited time only and while stocks last.

In addition to this, Emma Manley the designer behind contemporary Irish fashion brand, Manley will be moving to Kilkenny’s High Street Galway store for the month of September having taken part in Scéal in 2018.

A favourite among Kilkenny customers, Bernie Murphy returns to Scéal this year and has expanded her range due to her growing popularity.

Always keen to support and nurture up and coming talent, this month Kilkenny also welcomes recent jewellery design graduates from the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Jewellery and Goldsmithing Course in Co. Kilkenny to find Ireland’s best emerging jewellery designer.

Earlier this year, final year students pitched a concept for a commercial jewellery range to long-standing jewellery buyer, Una Heelan. David McCauley, Eve Doyle, Jodie White and Mark Newman were selected to receive mentoring in product range development, pricing, visual merchandising and marketing to develop a commercial collection in four months and have the opportunity to sell the collection in Kilkenny’s flagship store, Nassau Street in Dublin, during the month of September.

At the end of the month, one graduate will be selected as the overall winner of a €1,000 bursary. Voting is open to the public, and you can do so instore when you make a purchase or online via www.kilkennyshop.com/sceal-2019
