In his studio outside Mohill, Co. Leitrim, Roy Humphreys turns wood sourced from trees on his own farmland. His ash and yew bowls have a hard-to-pin-down ancient quality to them.
Small Ash Turned Bowl
by Roy Humphreys
Hand turned in native ash sourced from the family farm in Leitrim, every Roy Humphreys bowl is individual, the form and shape being dictated by the grain and bark of the timber he is turning. We loved the simplicity and scale of this beautiful bowl and asked Roy to make some for our shop. Each bowl is finished and oiled by hand and signed by Roy on the base.
His inclination towards primitive, humble forms and his knotted wood have the character of the archaeological finds that Leitrim’s ancient bogs reveal from time to time.
